Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist to support data-driven innovation in formulation and product development. This role will focus on analyzing scientific, experimental, formulation, and process data, building predictive and statistical models, and creating intuitive visualizations that help scientists and cross-functional partners make informed decisions.

The ideal candidate will work closely with formulation scientists, R&I teams, and digital stakeholders to transform laboratory and operational data into actionable insights that accelerate product development, improve formulation design, and support smarter experimentation.

Note: This role is HYBRID based in Clark, New Jersey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze formulation, experimental, laboratory, and process data to identify patterns, correlations, and optimization opportunities.
  • Develop predictive and statistical models to support formulation design, ingredient selection, and product performance evaluation.
  • Design and implement data pipelines and workflows to structure, clean, and prepare lab and formulation data for analysis.
  • Create interactive dashboards, visualizations, and reporting tools to communicate insights to scientific and business stakeholders.
  • Partner with formulation scientists, R&I teams, and digital stakeholders to translate scientific and product development challenges into practical data science solutions.
  • Apply design of experiments (DoE), machine learning, and statistical analysis to support experimentation strategies and data-driven decision making.
  • Contribute to the development of digital tools and analytics capabilities that improve speed, consistency, and quality in formulation decisions.
  • Document methodologies, models, assumptions, and analytical workflows to support reproducibility and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or another related quantitative/scientific field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics roles.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or R, including experience with relevant libraries such as Pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning, and experimental data analysis.
  • Experience working with scientific, laboratory, experimental, or formulation-related datasets.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex analyses into clear insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success working in cross-functional environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in cosmetics, beauty, consumer goods, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or materials science.
  • Familiarity with formulation science, product development, experimental design, or DoE.
  • Experience with LIMS, digital lab platforms, or R&D data environments.
  • Experience applying AI-assisted analytics or advanced modeling techniques to scientific datasets.

Work Environment

This role is based in Clark, NJ and requires onsite collaboration 3 days per week. The position partners closely with formulation scientists and cross-functional teams, so candidates should be comfortable working in a collaborative, hybrid R&D environment.
