Cohere is at the forefront of AI innovation, building cutting-edge language models and AI systems. Our Finance team plays a critical role in supporting our rapid growth and ensuring operational excellence. We value technical expertise, collaborative problem-solving, and a commitment to accuracy and compliance. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on our financial infrastructure while working at the intersection of finance and transformative technology.

We are seeking a seasoned Director of SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting to provide strategic leadership for our financial reporting and technical accounting functions. This executive-level role requires a proven leader who can serve as the ultimate technical accounting authority while overseeing all aspects of SEC reporting and shaping the finance department’s strategic direction. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with US GAAP and SEC regulations, establishing enterprise-wide accounting standards, and building world-class financial infrastructure. As we scale our business and navigate an evolving regulatory landscape, you will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence and serving as the primary advisor on accounting implications of major business decisions, including special projects related to M&A and other strategic transactions.

In this role, you will

  • Prepare, review, and coordinate S-1 registration statements for IPO readiness, working closely with legal counsel, underwriting teams and auditors
  • Lead all SEC reporting activities including preparation and filing of 10-K, 10-Q, and other required SEC documents
  • Serve as the primary technical accounting expert for complex transactions including stock-based compensation (ASC 718), lease accounting (ASC 842), and other specialized accounting areas
  • Partner cross-functionally on special projects including M&A accounting, system implementations, and process improvements
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls at an enterprise level
  • Partner with external auditors and coordinate audit processes, ensuring alignment with company strategy
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess accounting treatment for new initiatives
  • Set department strategy and vision for SEC reporting and technical accounting functions
  • Drive continuous improvement of our accounting infrastructure and reporting capabilities

You may be a good fit if you

  • Have a background in public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and an active CPA license or equivalent
  • Have 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public company experience at a senior level
  • Possess deep expertise in US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations
  • Have extensive hands-on experience with SEC reporting tools (Workiva, DFIN ActiveDisclosure, or similar)
  • Have proven experience in technical accounting research and complex transaction analysis
  • Have experience building accounting processes in a fast-paced technology environment, preferably at an AI company
  • Have strong executive presence and leadership skills
  • Take a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving
  • Have IPO readiness experience

Apply: If you are passionate about solving complex accounting challenges in a dynamic AI environment and want to join a team that values technical excellence and innovation, we encourage you to apply.

If some of the above doesn’t line up perfectly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply!
