How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:

Perform professional, basic accounting services for corporate holding company and/or 20+ diverse subsidiaries in a healthcare setting. Prepare Carilion financial statements for internal and external users in a timely, efficient, accurate and cost effective manner. Adhere to internal controls to ensure the integrity of Carilion’s financial statements. This is achieved by performing monthly reconciliations and other responsibilities listed below.


  • Prepare detailed analytical review of income statements and balance sheets for hospitals and 20+ affiliates during month-end closing process.  Research financial statement variances and inbalances to the general ledger and make corrections or provide explanations as appropriate.  Review monthly financial statements for distribution to various Carilion affiliate Board of Directors.
  • Required to meet frequent, non-negotiable deadlines on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.  Responsible for collecting information from multiple sources in a timely manner in order to meet deadlines.  Handle requests, with (often) minimal lead-time, from managers, directors, vice presidents and/or financial advisors.  Maintain client service approach in all circumstances.
  • Initiate and review journal entries from revenue and cash reports submitted by multiple subsidiaries/departments/outside vendors.  Initiate* journal entries for intercompany and intracompany allocations; and adjustments to various other balance sheet accounts including cash, debt, prepaid assets, and others.
  • Prepare all required audit schedules and financial statements, including in-depth analysis of significant changes between fiscal years, for interim and year-end audits for designated affiliates.
  • Decide on accounting treatments for capitalizable assets, interpreting guidelines on categories and lives for multiple, diverse affiliates.  Generate fixed asset records and depreciation schedules for all taxable and non-profit affiliates.
  • Balance, reconcile, and journalize EPIC and other accounts receivable systems.  Develop and maintain general ledger crosswalk tables where necessary.
  • Initiate, maintain, and develop general ledger and fixed asset reports.  Maintain the integrity of the uniform chart of accounts and fixed asset database for all taxable and non-profit affiliates.
  • Reconcile accounts on a monthly basis, maintaining appropriate schedules as supporting documentation.  Research and correct account imbalances.
  • Maintain current knowledge of accounting literature.
  • Maintains confidentiality of proprietary financial information and patient-sensitive data.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Requires a significant amount of judgment.





What We Require:

Education: Bachelors degree in accounting or business administration with concentration in accounting required.
Experience: Entry level position. Experience not required, though 1-2 years preferred.
Licensure/Certifications/Registration: CMA or CPA designation or exam qualification preferred but not required.
Other Minimum Qualifications: General knowledge of PCs and office equipment. Knowledge of computerized accounting systems, spreadsheet and word processing software, with Microsoft Windows/Excel/Word preferred. Requires good writing skills, interpersonal skills, and good analytical skills.
