Job description

Injury Prevention:

  • Develop and implement injury prevention programs, including stretching, strengthening, and conditioning exercises.
  • Educate athletes, coaches, and parents on injury prevention strategies.
  • Ensure a safe playing environment by monitoring field conditions and equipment.

Injury Evaluation and Treatment:

  • Conduct thorough evaluations of athletic injuries.
  • Provide immediate care for acute injuries, including first aid and emergency management.
  • Develop and implement rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
  • Utilize therapeutic modalities, such as ice, heat, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound, as appropriate.

Rehabilitation:

  • Design and implement individualized rehabilitation programs to return athletes to full participation.
  • Monitor athlete progress and adjust rehabilitation programs as needed.
  • Communicate with coaches and parents regarding athlete status and return-to-play timelines.
  • Coordinate with Physical Therapists

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
  • Coordinate physician referrals and follow-up care.
  • Inventory and maintain athletic training supplies and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with coaches, athletes, parents, and school administration.
  • Work within the scope of practice as defined by the state of Virginia
  • Attend practices and home games as determined by the athletic director, within the 20-hour-per-week scope.
  • Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field.
  • Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Strong knowledge of athletic injuries and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with athletes, coaches, and parents.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings.
  • Experience working with middle and high school athletes preferred.
