Job Summary:

The Art, Theatre and Dance (ATD) Department requests a Professor of Theatre and Technical Director for the Theatre Program. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in teaching at the university level, technical direction, scenic design, construction, production scheduling, purchasing and budgeting. The course load will be a 3/3 and example courses to be taught are Theatre Workshop Practicum, Stagecraft, Drafting, Props & Crafts and/or Scenic Design. The position will also involve supervising the production process and student workers for all university theatre and dance productions and oversee the physical maintenance of the theatre spaces. Candidates with an emphasis in Scenic design are also encouraged to apply.

Work Performed: 

  • Teach the assigned course load
  • Coordinate all Theatre and Dance Productions and role includes:
    • creating and maintaining all production schedules
    • serving as the technical director
    • creation of construction drawings
    • supervise the carpentry, welding, rigging, painting, audio, lighting and other required skills for the production process
    • purchasing/procurement of tools, equipment and materials, including rentals as needed
  • Plan and maintain budgets for all productions in the WT Theatre spaces throughout the year
  • Coordinate and maintain all the theatre equipment and facility needs
  • Manage repairs and requests for tools, equipment and materials
  • Organization and physical maintenance of the stages, auditoriums, workshops and storage
  • Manage and maintain theatre production staff, including practicum students and student workers
  • Attend all theatre and dance production meetings and coordinate with other theatre faculty and staff
  • Coordinate with university Health and Safety staff to ensure all theatre facilities are safe, clean, and meet all local, state, and national requirements

Necessary Qualifications:

  • MFA in Theatre with an emphasis in Technical Direction, Scenic Design or related fields
  • 2-3 years of undergraduate teaching experience
  • 1-3 years of Technical Direction and/or Scenic Design experience in a university or professional theatre

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in machinery and/or technology relevant to the position
  • Experience in other aspects of theatre management like budgeting, staffing, and facility maintenance
  • Experience with all levels of Theatre Education
