Job Title: GUI Developer
Job Description
We are seeking a talented Front-End Developer with expertise in UI/UX and GUI development to join our team in a major re-architecture and modernization initiative. This project focuses on next-generation operator interfaces for Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) and related mission systems. It is a long-term effort with opportunities for immediate contribution and team growth.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and refine requirements for enhancements and updates to an existing codebase.
- Write high-quality, standards-compliant code and perform thorough testing of new features and updates across multi-display GUI environments.
- Support the modernization of legacy applications by upgrading to newer versions.
- Contribute to a new front-end “tiles” architecture using React for dynamic UI components.
- Maintain and update code in version-controlled repositories.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and iterative development cycles.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, developers, and UI/UX stakeholders to optimize operator workflows and reduce cognitive load.
- Integrate with middleware components and a custom backend database.
- Support containerized deployments using Kubernetes.
- Assist with scripting or prototyping using Python.
Essential Skills
- Strong object-oriented development skills using Java and JavaFX.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative development team.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- Ability to interpret requirements and accurately estimate development effort.
- Understanding of GUI best practices, usability, and user-centered design.
- Ability to maintain and manage code in Java-based repositories.
- Solid understanding of API interactions, modular frameworks, and multi-component systems.
- Experience integrating with middleware and backend database systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
- 5+ years of professional Java development experience preferred (2–4 years acceptable depending on depth of GUI experience).
- Hands-on experience with JavaFX or Swing GUI development.
- Experience developing in Linux environments, preferably Red Hat (RHEL 6/7/8).
- Familiarity with Git, Gerrit, and Agile development workflows.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Clearance (active clearance preferred).
- Direct experience with JavaFX for modern UI development.
- Experience with React or other modern JavaScript frameworks.
- Exposure to containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with Eclipse IDE, IntelliJ, or VS Code.
- Experience supporting Navy, DoD, or mission-critical systems.
- Python scripting experience for automation or prototyping.
Work Environment

This is a Contract position based out of Manassas, VA. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $59.00/hr.
