The Program Director is responsible for leading a diverse team within a designated geographic region, program area, or funding stream. This role oversees all aspects of local operations, ensuring alignment with the agency’s mission, leadership goals, policies, funding requirements, and regulatory, licensing, and accreditation standards.
Key responsibilities include promoting agency services to community employers, developing employment opportunities for program participants, and coordinating staff training initiatives. The Program Director maintains overall management control of program operations and fosters strong relationships with stakeholders, including participants, families, staff, employers, funding sources, and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain partnerships with community employers to expand job, training, and educational opportunities
- Oversee job development, placement, vocational guidance, and training (onsite and remote)
- Coordinate internship and work-based learning opportunities, including site evaluation, marketing, and procurement
- Utilize innovative technology, including virtual reality and other digital platforms, to enhance participant engagement and learning outcomes
- Support and oversee instruction for neurodiverse individuals (ages 14–22) in school and community settings, focused on pre-employment and transitional skill development
- Ensure delivery of instruction in self-advocacy, job exploration, workplace readiness, and post-secondary education planning
- Support employer engagement and provide education on workforce inclusion
- Manage program operations, budgets, and staff supervision
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Exercise sound judgment in problem-solving, prioritization, and multitasking
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of human services experience, or Master’s degree with at least 3 years of human services experience
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience required
- Experience with OPWDD Day Habilitation and employment programs preferred
- Experience in mental health, recovery, and psychiatric rehabilitation preferred
- Demonstrated financial management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), email, and internet use
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license, and a good driving record
- Reliable vehicle and willingness to transport participants when necessary
- Ability to travel throughout the region to access residential settings, employers, offices, and community organizations
