JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Vehicle Engineer is responsible for engineering and designing New Vehicles from start to finish. This person will be responsible for the design and integration of all vehicle systems found in today’s wheelchair accessible vehicles and set the overall development strategy, maintaining corporate objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Engineer, design and develop new vehicle conversions in CAD (Inventor)
  • Design Mechanism, Suspensions, Structures and Closures (doors & liftgates)
  • Plan for design, procurement, assembly, and validation requirements that align with overall Project Timing, Stage Gate (APQP) and Mitigation Strategies.
  • Ensure vehicle Designs & Systems conform to budgeted Quality and Cost targets
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, Portfolio)
  • Suggest Low-cost Design alternatives, Common Designs and Standardization
  • Build and design prototype vehicles
  • Constantly improve designs, processes, and timing
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Review designs with peers for design practices and concerns

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Mechanism Design knowledge and integration with tolerance considerations
  • Understanding of Vehicle Engineering and Integration
  • Proficiency in Structural Design, sheet metal fabrication, welding, LEAN principles
  • Understanding of fuel, exhaust, cooling, braking systems
  • Experience with Closures & Suspensions
  • Knowledge of materials and standards
  • Experience with FEA, DFA/M, DOE, D/PFMEA, DVP&R, GD&T, Tolerance Stack-up, 8D
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Tools: Inventor, AutoCAD, Vault, MS Office, Epicor (ERP)

MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering
  • Master’s in the US (mandatory)
  • Experience taking a product from Concept through Launch
  • Ability to Lead Projects & work with Cross Functional Teams
  • 3D Product Design Experience
  • Stable Job History (2–3 years per company)
  • Must be currently employed
  • Must be located in Indiana

Nice to Have

  • DFMEA
  • Root Cause Analysis Tools
  • Automotive / Transportation / Specialty Vehicle experience
