Job description

As part of our continued growth, AECOM has an opportunity for an Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls EIT. You will have a successful track record in delivering conceptual, preliminary and detailed design phases, construction services in utility, Industrial and/or municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team environment to deliver advanced water and wastewater treatment facilities, transmission and distribution and renewable projects to our clients based in Western Canada and the USA.

The responsibilities of this position include: 

  • Design of electrical power and distribution systems, lighting, grounding and control systems
  • Design and supervise production of drawings and specifications for complete electrical and automation systems including single line diagram, AC/DC schematics, field and panel control devices and SCADA for various processes including water/wastewater treatment, and utility applications.
  • Strictly adhere to AECOM's project and Quality standards, including capability of learning and adopting clients' standard and requirements upon request
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical aspect on project documentation produced in accordance with AECOM QA/QC procedures and the clients' standards.
  • Ensure that project deliverables are produced in a timely manner to expected quality and allocated budget.
  • Work with Construction Contract Administrator to review Shop Drawings, prepare and issue responses to contractor queries.
  • Perform site inspections and issue inspection reports, issue Field Instructions and Field Orders, and prepare deficiency reports.
  • Provide technical support through all phases of the project.
  • Understands the importance of meeting schedules, deadlines and good time management.

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / I&C Engineering + 2 years of related experience in engineering design in a multi-disciplinary electrical, instrumentation & control environment for production, including field services during construction phase of projects.
  • Registered as an EIT with APEGA or ability to become registered within 6-12 months.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in electrical, instrumentation, and control design within multidisciplinary project environments, including construction-phase field support.
  • Strong experience producing detailed design and tender documentation (e.g., P&IDs, single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and layout drawings).
  • Knowledge of protection relays, PLC-based systems, and low-voltage (600V) MCCs is an asset.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software (e.g., SKM, ETAP) is an asset.
  • Solid understanding of applicable codes and standards (CEC, NFPA, CSA, and provincial building codes).
  • Ability to interpret specifications and translate them into accurate, high-quality design deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
