About the Opportunity:

Amentum are offering an exciting opportunity to join our growing team of IT professionals to work on a range of projects for our diverse client portfolio that covers Critical National Infrastructure, National Security, Defence and Nuclear market sectors. Our team is growing and are we looking for proactive and collaborative professionals of all levels to work within us in providing a range of services to our clients. With our deep technical, commercial, and strategic expertise we develop solutions that address our client’s critical challenges supporting digitalisation and security.

We are looking for a Cloud Architect with a strong technical background to support the design, delivery, and evolution of secure cloud-based solutions across Defence and Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) programmes. You will play a key role in aligning cloud architectures with business and mission objectives, ensuring scalable, secure, and resilient systems across complex environments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop secure cloud architectures (public, private, and hybrid) aligned to client requirements and enterprise architecture principles.

  • Translate business and operational needs into robust, scalable cloud solutions, including infrastructure, platform, and data services.

  • Define and govern cloud standards, patterns, and reference architectures across programmes.

  • Lead on cloud migration strategies, including legacy system transition, application modernisation, and data migration.

  • Ensure compliance with Defence and CNI security standards, implementing Secure by Design principles and risk management approaches.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across architecture, engineering, security, and delivery teams to ensure coherent end-to-end solutions.

  • Conduct technology horizon scanning and provide recommendations on emerging cloud capabilities and innovations.


Here's What You'll Need:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology) or equivalent experience.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to define cloud based solutions to complex challenges.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ experience designing and delivering cloud solutions.

  • Experience within defence or CNI environments [desirable].

  • Strong experience with major cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud) and associated services.

  • Experience developing cloud strategies, architectures, and roadmaps aligned to business objectives.

  • Good understanding of cloud architecture patterns (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, microservices, serverless), containerisation and orchestration technologies. (e.g., Docker), networking, and cloud security principles.

  • Understanding of data architectures and integration approaches within cloud environments.

Standards & Frameworks:

  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, UAF, MODAF) [desirable].

  • Knowledge of security and governance standards relevant to Defence and CNI (e.g. JSPs, NIST, ISO 27001).

  • Understanding of Secure by Design and risk management approaches.
