Job description

We are seeking two Senior Stress Engineers to support the development of actuation systems within a high-profile aerospace/defence programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with clients and internal teams to develop unit and component loading cases
  • Support preliminary sizing analysis and conceptual design activities
  • Perform classical stress analysis, including:
    • Strength of materials
    • Static and fatigue calculations
    • Load rationalisation
  • Conduct FEA analysis, including:
    • Linear and non-linear analysis
    • Contact and dynamic analysis
    • Vibration analysis
  • Derive margins of safety and damage assessments

Required Skills:

  • Extensive experience as a Stress Engineer within aerospace or defence
  • Strong background in mechanical / structural analysis
  • Experience working on actuation systems or similar mechanical systems
  • Ability to produce and review detailed technical documentation

Prepare, review, and update key stress documentation, including:

  • Stress Plans
  • Stress Reports (preliminary & final)
  • Stress Calculation Sheets
  • Vibration Analysis Reports
  • Load Definition Reports
  • Integrated Drawing Release Plans

Contribute to:

  • Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
  • Design to Cost and Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFM/A)
  • Support requirements development alongside the Actuation IPT team
  • Contribute to system and unit architecture development
  • Extensive experience as a Stress Engineer within aerospace or defence
  • Strong background in mechanical / structural analysis.

Proven experience with:

  • Classical stress methods
  • FEA tools (e.g. Abaqus, ANSYS, Nastran)
  • Experience working on actuation systems or similar mechanical systems
  • Ability to produce and review detailed technical documentation

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in flight control or actuation systems
  • Exposure to safety-critical design environments
  • Eligible for UK Security clearance
