Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Commis to join our culinary team in Chennai, India. As a Commis, you will be a vital part of our kitchen operations, working alongside experienced chefs and kitchen staff to deliver exceptional food preparation and service.   • Prepare and organize your workstation before each shift, ensuring all tools, ingredients, and equipment are clean, organized, and ready for service
  • Assist senior chefs with food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients according to established recipes and standards
  • Follow recipes and cooking instructions precisely, paying close attention to portion sizes, plating standards, and presentation requirements
  • Maintain exceptional food safety and hygiene standards at all times, adhering to all kitchen protocols and local health regulations
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, stovetops, fryers, and other culinary tools
  • Support the kitchen team during service, responding quickly to requests and adapting to changing priorities in a high-pressure environment
  • Clean and sanitize your workstation, equipment, and kitchen areas throughout and after each shift
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, communicating clearly and supporting team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations
  • Monitor inventory and report any shortages or equipment issues to senior staff promptly
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive kitchen culture by demonstrating enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn
  • Completed formal training in culinary arts, hospitality, or a related field from a recognized institution
  • Practical experience working in a professional kitchen environment (minimum 6 months preferred)
  • Current Food Safety and Hygiene certification or willingness to obtain one
  • Strong knowledge of basic knife skills and food preparation techniques
  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment, safety protocols, and sanitation standards
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow recipes and instructions precisely
  • Physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods while performing repetitive tasks
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work seamlessly as part of a kitchen team
  • Enthusiasm for culinary arts and commitment to continuous learning and skill development
