Job Title: Director of Estimating, Ontario

Location(s) of work: 2680 Skymark Ave, Mississauga, Ontario, L4W 5L6 Canada. May be required to travel to worksite locations across Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Vice President & District Manager and the Senior Vice President, Strategic Operations, operating at the highest level of provincial leadership to ensure Ontario estimating operations align with national corporate growth targets. 
  • Establish operational objectives for the Ontario division and formulate, approve, and implement estimating corporate policies and programs for major construction projects. 
  • Allocate material, human, and financial resources to implement organizational policies, including exercising absolute discretion and control over a departmental budget of $8,000,000. 
  • Provide executive oversight, direction, and evaluation of the pre-construction division entirely through subordinate middle managers. Mr. Stewart will directly govern the performance of the Preconstruction Manager, the Estimating Lead, Senior Estimators, and Estimators. 
  • Represent Chandos Construction as a senior executive, or delegate representatives to act on behalf of the organization, in high-level negotiations with public infrastructure clients, joint-venture partners, supply chain executives, and other official functions. 
  • Directing, organizing, and planning for estimating operations for major construction projects.
  • Provide leadership and maintain direction of all estimating initiatives and activities.
  • Develop corporate policies for quality control and establish best practices for the division.
  • Provide operational oversight over managers and professionals for each project.
  • Establish corporate financial and administrative controls to govern risk management plans, ensuring that all large-scale commercial, institutional, and civil project pursuits meet acceptable rates of return on investment Personnel management, with authority to recruit, hire and supervise staff and engage and supervise the work activities of subcontractors.
  • Develop risk management plans and manage the planning and preparation of construction schedules and monitor progress against project milestones.
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements.
  • Represent the organization or delegate representatives to act on behalf of the organization, in negotiations or other official functions.
  • Supervise the preparation and submission of progress and other reports.
  • Oversee the estimation of expenses and materials and manage cost controls.
  • Select, recruit, and hire middle managers, directors, and other professional staff; delegate the necessary authority to the Preconstruction Manager and Estimating Lead to execute complex estimating functions, and create optimum working conditions for top-tier talent. 
  • Develop construction specifications and procedures.
  • Co-ordinate employee performance and appraisal programs.
  • Liaise with departmental and corporate officials and with other organizations and associations

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years of active, relevant and applicable experience in the construction industry.
  • Prior budgetary experience of at least CAD $5 Million.
  • Experience managing high value projects of over CAD $100 Million.
  • Experience directing a team of professionals.
