Greetings from your future manager
“Are you an IT professional interested in working close to research, laboratory systems and real technology—without a traditional service desk role as your main focus? We are looking for an IT professional with strong collaboration skills and a willingness to learn and develop. You will work in a scientifically interesting R&D environment and be part of developing our laboratory IT landscape together with multiple stakeholders.” – Anne Pulli, Site Manager
What you will do
In this role, you will work hands‑on with laboratory and research IT systems and support their development as part of a broader IT ecosystem. Your responsibilities include:
- Participating in IT development activities supporting Research & Development needs
- Administering and further developing the Laboratory Information Management System (LabVantage LIMS)
- Supporting laboratory IT operations, including measurement workstations and instrument-related software
- Participating in integration projects between LIMS, ERP and mill systems in collaboration with business and IT stakeholders
- Working closely with R&D teams, UPM IT and external partners to ensure stable and fit-for-purpose digital solutions
This role suits someone who enjoys combining daily operational support with gradual system development and understands that development is done together with others, not in isolation.
At UPM Research Center in Lappeenranta, you will work in a unique R&D environment where IT, laboratory, piloting operations and research meet. In this role, you support and develop digital laboratory systems together with researchers, UPM IT and technology partners, while operating within UPM’s established IT and governance frameworks.
Who you are
You are a practical, curious IT professional who enjoys working close to users and real operational environments. You appreciate clear structures, teamwork and shared ownership of development. You have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in IT, Engineering or a related field
- At least 3 years of relevant IT experience
- Experience in IT systems support or system specialist roles, preferably in industrial, laboratory or R&D environments
- Good general IT skills (applications, hardware, basic networking, databases)
- A systematic and solution‑oriented way of working
- The ability to collaborate with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- The capability to work independently within agreed responsibilities
- Fluency in Finnish and English
- Experience with LIMS or laboratory environments is an advantage, but not a requirement—we support learning on the job
