Performs and interprets various chemical, microscopic, and/or bacteriologic tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Follows established protocols to perform a wide range of test in an assigned area. Refers to Medical Technologist II’s or supervisory or lead staff members for assistance in the interpretation of complex or unusual test results.
  • Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program.
  • Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition in order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.
  • Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area. Performs routine troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex equipment and instrumentation.
  • Maintains accurate records of tests performed, using computer-based systems. 

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:

  • Associates degree from a clinical lab science program (MLT).  

-OR-

  • Bachelor’s Degree in sciences.  
  • Degree and course work in the sciences must meet the requirements for high complexity testing as defined CLIA Sec. 493.1487 to qualify for hiring.

Preferred:

  • ASCP certification as an MLT /MT 

Preferred Skills : Hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid sample preparation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, allele specific PCR, Real time PCR, FISH testing, and next generation sequencing.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data/reports. Independently perform clinical runs, analyze data, and prepare technical reports according to standard operating procedures.  Accurately and comprehensively document all experimental details. Organize samples/specimens, maintain inventory, and update specimen database
