ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities.  We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better.  It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

Step into a role where your work truly matters. Join The Salvation Army in Mount Isa as an AOD Case Worker and help change lives every day. You’ll provide hands‑on case management and evidence‑based support to people navigating alcohol and other drug challenges, empowering them to reduce harm, rebuild stability and move confidently toward long‑term recovery.

About the Role

You’ll deliver a dynamic mix of individual case work, group programs and coordinated care, all guided by TSA’s National AOD Model of Care. Your work will help participants strengthen coping skills, build independence and connect with community, cultural and spiritual supports that enhance their wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct person‑centred AOD assessments, screening and risk evaluations
  • Develop tailored treatment plans and track participant progress
  • Provide trauma‑informed, strengths‑based case management
  • Identify co‑occurring needs and coordinate referrals to mental health, medical and specialist services
  • Deliver therapeutic interventions (CBT, ACT, mindfulness, MI, relapse prevention)
  • Support participants to build insight, develop coping strategies and reduce harmful substance use
  • Facilitate psycho‑educational and therapeutic groups, including TSA’s Foundations program
  • Champion culturally safe, inclusive and respectful practice, especially with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

What You’ll Bring

  • Cert IV in AOD (or related qualification/experience; those enrolled may be considered)
  • Experience in AOD, case management, harm minimisation and trauma‑informed practice
  • Strong communication, rapport‑building and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQIA+ individuals, CALD communities and people with complex needs
  • Resilience, adaptability and a commitment to participant‑centred care

Other Requirements

  • National Police Check
  • Working With Children Check
  • Current Driver’s Licence

What we offer

  • Salary packaging up to $15,900 tax free + $2,650 meal entertainment benefit.
  • Generous Paid Parental leave for primary (12 weeks) & secondary carers, Purchased Leave Scheme (up to 8 weeks) and 5 days paid leave per year to experience working in other TSA programs or activities.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Access to EAP and health & wellness initiatives incl Fitness Passport
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander supports such as: Burra Burra Network (pastoral care network), Cultural Events, Sorry Business and Ceremonial Leave (up to 10 days)
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities that enhance on the job skills and proficiency.
  • Rewarding and fulfilling purpose driven careers that have positive and sustainable / social impacts.
