Venture Global LNG (“Venture Global”) is a long-term, low-cost provider of American-produced liquefied natural gas. The company’s two Louisiana-based export projects service the global demand for North American natural gas and support the long-term development of clean and reliable North American energy supplies. Using reliable, proven technology in an innovative plant design configuration, Venture Global’s modular, mid-scale plant design will replace traditional designs as it allows for the same efficiency and operational reliability at significantly lower capital cost.
Position Summary
The Vessel & Terminal Auditor Superintendent supports the Director, Marine Risk by providing maritime technical and operational expertise to ensure that all marine activities are conducted safely and in full compliance with Venture Global’s standards, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder expectations.
This position assists the Director, Marine Risk in managing marine risk at Venture Global terminals and third‑party facilities, as well as providing marine subject matter expertise across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Terminal Operations
- Conduct audits of LNG terminal facilities in line with the OCIMF MTMSA framework.
- Provide strategic marine support and subject matter expertise (SME) based on industry best practices and due diligence standards.
- Promote marine HSSE performance and provide oversight to VG terminal HSSE teams on marine‑related activities.
- Work closely with Marine Supervisors and Persons‑in‑Charge (PICs) to ensure safe and efficient cargo operations.
- Support the Marine Risk Advisor in maintaining the marine risk register and assist terminal HSSE teams with mitigation implementation.
- Develop site‑specific marine procedures aligned with international, federal, and industry regulations.
- Support MTMSA and TMSA audits with buyers and ship operators, including documentation review, audit completion, report preparation, and observation close‑out.
- Provide marine risk management support to VG’s operating and project facilities.
- Assist with marine training initiatives, promoting marine safety and operational best practices.
- Serve as SME for incident investigations, non‑conformity close‑outs, and audit findings.
- Work with the Marine HSSE and Crisis Management teams to maintain and exercise marine emergency response plans.
- Track and analyze HSSE statistics and KPIs for all marine operations.
Future Project Development
- Provide marine SME support to Venture Global’s projects and development teams.
- Offer guidance on design, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness for marine and terminal systems.
Audit and Assurance
- Provide effective marine advice and problem‑solving solutions based on best practice, due diligence, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure safe operations within company, national, international, and industry standards.
- Support regulatory and environmental compliance programs.
- Conduct internal safety audits to promote a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to prepare materials and documentation related to Venture Global’s marine “safety case.”
Vessel Operations
The following responsibilities are to be carried out in close coordination with the Venture Global Ship Management (VGSM) team:
- Conduct ISM, ISPS, and MLC internal audits in accordance with the VGSM audit schedule.
- Verify vessel compliance with the Safety Management System (SMS), statutory regulations, Flag State, and Class requirements.
- Perform pre‑vetting, navigational, cargo, and safety inspections to ensure vessels are prepared for external inspections (e.g., SIRE 2.0, Port State Control).
- Evaluate crew competence, training records, and adherence to onboard safety procedures.
- Review onboard risk assessments, incident investigations, and corrective/preventive actions.
- Identify gaps and non‑conformities; issue clear audit reports and ensure verification of close‑out actions.
- Coordinate with vessel Masters, Chief Engineers, and shore management to ensure timely and measurable improvements.
- Support the Marine and HSEQ departments in developing audit tools, checklists, and training materials.
- Provide performance feedback and recommendations to ship management on fleet safety and operational culture.
Qualifications
Education & Certification:
- Bachelor’s or Associate Degree, or Marine Class I Certificate of Competency (Deck or Engine).
- Minimum: Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, or Second Engineer experience on a gas carrier (LNG/LPG) in compliance with SIRE 2.0 requirements.
- Preferred: Master Mariner with command experience.
- Must hold a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
- Lead Auditor Training Certificate required.
Experience:
- Experience in marine and terminal operations, with practical application of the OCIMF MTMSA framework.
- Significant sea‑going service aboard tankers (preferably chemical, LPG, or LNG) in a senior officer capacity.
- Oil, Chemical, and/or Gas endorsement required.
- Proven experience conducting terminal, technical operator, and contractor audits, with strong understanding of tanker inspection processes.
- Understanding of contractor management in 3rd‑party marine operations, including pilotage, towage, and line handling.
- Experience with commissioning and startup activities is an advantage.
- Understanding of project development, safety management, and marine risk.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong awareness of marine safety and risk management in hazardous environments.
- Expert knowledge of OCIMF best practices for marine terminal and LNG vessel operations.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels and disciplines.

- Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving skills, with an emphasis on practical and proactive solutions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, Project, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of Optimoor, LNG Ship/Shore Interface systems, and MIS Mainstay is a plus.
- Proven leadership skills with keen attention to operational detail and continuous improvement.
