Job description
The Assistant Warehouse Manager is responsible for selecting, training, and motivating warehouse staff to ensure productivity and quality targets are met. This individual will oversee the day-to-day inner functions of the warehouse, including but not limited to the efficient order flow from the start of the picking process to the time it leaves our building, as well as warehouse organization, inventory control, employee hiring/accountability, training, and the ability to create and improve processes.
Position Duties & Requirements
- Manage the warehouse team with excellent communication and clear direction including daily warehouse meetings, goal setting and process improvement
- Monitor order status and prioritize daily picking/packing dispatch with consideration to shipping timelines and internal turnaround standards
- Maintains warehouse staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees and manages warehouse employees by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising performance.
- Manage the flow and quality of work to maximize efficiency and minimize overtime
- Motivate, organize, and encourage teamwork among your staff to ensure set productivity targets are met; ensures that all the employees are on task and work towards achieving the daily objectives
- Work with Shift Supervisors and Warehouse Manager to improve process, ensure orders are error free, meet timelines, and hit operation objectives
- Work with Logistics Manager to schedule container deliveries
- Validate and pack orders according to business and customer standards
- Use 5S and Six Sigma methods to maintain safety, accuracy, and minimize shrinkage
- Continually evaluate customer packing/shipping requirements to minimize chargebacks
- Work with Customer Service Manager to resolve ongoing order entry issues
- Schedule freight pickups for LTL and Small Courier shipments and communicate with our carrier representatives to resolve claims and scheduling of pickups
- Follow customer routing requirements and update internal documentation as needed and maintain customer specifications within WMS to ensure routing requirements are followed
- Oversight of FIFO within all back stocking locations
- Work in tandem with various departments and maintain flexible attitude supporting all the work that helps in achieving organizational goals, along with other duties as assigned
- Manage and oversee the various cycle count schedules of all inventory and audit for errors and inconsistencies. Investigate, identify, and reconcile the cycle count discrepancies, i.e., shortages as well as overages
- Assist with physical inventory counts and reconciling with WMS
- Oversee customer returns processing including accurately documenting returns, ensuring each return is categorized by customer type/product condition, and meeting processing timelines
- Ensure that all Quality Control Projects are organized and processed according to the project’s procedures.
- Manage, document, and enforce all warehouse safety measures and protocols
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in a warehouse environment and a high school diploma
- 5+ years warehouse and inventory management experience and 1+ years leading time sensitive warehouse projects
- Strong leadership skills to supervise a team of non-exempt employees
- Ability to perform tasks under pressure with a positive attitude in a deadline driven environment
- Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills
- Excellent verbal as well as written communication skills
- Ability to work with all levels of company staff
- High attention to detail with the willingness to learn, adapt and improve processes & procedures
- Ability to supervise, control, manage, instruct and lead others to complete the assigned tasks
- Ability to be trained and certified on forklift operations
- Proficient computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office programs and ability to learn ERP and WMS systems
- Experience with 5S, and SIX SIGMA a plus.
- Experience with Fedex, UPS, and LTL carriers a plus.
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems, SAP, SPS Commerce, and other third party transportation portals a plus.
This is a full-time, in-person position; located in Broomfield, Colorado. This position comes with a comprehensive benefits package which includes health insurance (medical, dental, vision), retirement match, EAPs, paid time off, community service leave, paid holidays, wellness stipend, gear allowance, and some other great perks. The salary range for this role is $60,000 - $80,000 with the starting salary around the mid point of this range.
