Department Summary The Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology advances our knowledge of life on earth at the cellular and molecular levels. Our mission is to educate the next generation of scholars, professionals, and citizens of the world by fully integrating our students into cutting-edge research activities, including hands-on participation in the process of scientific discovery. Our faculty conducts research with a variety of models including Arabidopsis, Drosophila, zebrafish, mouse and stem cells to address the most pressing problems in biology, health and sustainability. Position Summary Support the academic success of nearly 1,000 undergraduate students in UCLA’s Molecular, Cell & Developmental Biology department. This role provides comprehensive academic advising on degree requirements, policies, and academic progress while serving as a key resource for teaching assistants and instructors. The Student Services Advisor 2 collaborates closely with department leadership, faculty, and staff to support instructional programs and assist with the hiring and administration of Teaching Assistants and Readers. Ideal for an experienced, student‑centered advisor who thrives in a high‑volume academic environment and brings strong judgment, organization, and communication skills. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Qualifications 2 + years Experience with advising students and administering educational/degree programs. (Preferred) Knowledge of UCLA system & Database software: OASIS, Degree Audit Report System, Bruin Learn. (Preferred) Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms (Required) Communication skills, including but not limited to written communication, to convey information accurately, clearly and concisely to the public, applicants, faculty and other University offices regarding the undergraduate programs. - Required (Required) Ability to resolve problems efficiently while effectively managing time and prioritizing tasks. (Required) Ability to correctly advise undergraduate students on the full range of academic questions. (Required) Skill in performing under the stress of frequent interruptions and/or distractions. (Required) Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities. (Required) Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in a workload, changes in assignment, pressures of deadlines, competing requirements, and heavy workload. (Required) Skill in interacting diplomatically with instructors, undergraduates, graduate students, staff, and the public in a high volume, continuous public contact setting. (Required) Ability to maintain confidentiality of examination preparation, grading process, student records and other issues. (Required) Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices or procedures. (Required) Skill in employing fundamental counseling techniques with sensitivity.
