Job description
You’ll be joining the team that makes sure Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and OpenShift play nice with the latest networking hardware (SmartNICs and DPUs). Think of yourself as the bridge between the physical hardware and the cloud software. You aren't just building apps; you’re making sure the foundation they sit on is rock solid.
What you will do:
Write & Implement Code: You’ll spend most of your time in the "flow state," writing C, Python, or Go to integrate new hardware features into our core platforms.
Troubleshoot & Debug: When hardware doesn't talk to the OS correctly, you’ll dig into the drivers and the Linux kernel to find out why and fix it.
Smart Automation: You’ll identify repetitive manual tasks (like testing or deployment) and write scripts to automate them so the whole team stays fast.
Collaborate & Ship: You’ll work alongside senior engineers to take requirements and turn them into functional, enterprise-grade code that actually works for customers.
What you will bring:
Solid Linux Skills: You know your way around a Linux terminal and have a good grasp of how the kernel handles networking and drivers. You don't need to be a kernel deity, but you should know how things connect.
Polyglot Coding: You are comfortable writing C (for the low-level stuff) and either Python or Go (for tooling and automation). You’re less worried about "which language" and more worried about "does it work?"
A "Testing" Mindset: You write code that is meant to last. You understand that code isn't "done" until it's tested and integrated into a CI/CD pipeline.
Problem-Solving Curiosity: You enjoy the "puzzle" of hardware/software interactions and don't mind getting your hands dirty in a complex codebase.
The following are considered a plus:
- Container Exposure: You’ve used Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift and understand how they interact with the underlying OS.
DevOps Basics: You’ve worked with Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Ansible to automate your workflows.
Open Source Mindset: You’re comfortable navigating GitHub, reading other people’s code, and contributing to upstream projects (like the OPI Project).
