Job description
Workstream is a mission-driven company building the all-in-one HR, payroll, and hiring platform for managing the hourly workforce. There are 2.7 billion hourly workers, making up 80% of the global workforce, but this market has been heavily underserved by technology and deserves better. We are a high growth series B company and quickly expanding our product portfolio to deliver on our vision. We are backed by legendary VCs and industry experts like Founders Fund, BOND, and Coatue.

Here are our Company Values and we’d love to have individuals who can be a culture add to our team!
What We Offer

- Pay wired directly to your bank account
- $50 Monthly Stipend
- Annual Bonus
- Flexible PTO
- Enjoy company time off during some of the major US Holidays
- Career fast track for performers and internal mobility
- Learn from a team of Stanford, MIT, Google and Harvard alumni
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer in Professional Services (PS) to join our growing team. In this role, you will own the design, development, and delivery of complex technical integrations between our platform and enterprise client systems. You'll operate at the intersection of deep software engineering and customer partnership — leading integration architecture decisions, mentoring junior engineers, and driving technical standards across the PS organization.
The majority of your time is spent writing code, architecting scalable solutions, and solving genuinely hard technical problems. You'll bring an AI-native mindset to everything you build — leveraging LLMs, automation, and modern AI tooling to deliver faster, smarter outcomes for clients and the team. You'll work directly with enterprise clients and internal stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into production-grade software, with direct, visible impact on customer retention and satisfaction.
Day in the Life
Integration & Internal Engineering (50%)
- Architect and build robust API integrations between our platform and client HR, payroll, and POS systems
- Develop and maintain reusable integration frameworks and shared libraries that accelerate delivery across the team
- Own the full software lifecycle — from design and development through testing, deployment, and production support
- Build data migration pipelines and CSV transformation solutions for enterprise onboarding
- Develop two-way payroll integrations with complex business logic and error handling
- Build and deploy custom internal tools that improve team efficiency, integration observability, and customer operations
- Own infrastructure-as-code and deployment pipelines using Terraform, GitHub Actions, and related CI/CD tooling — you ship to production, not just to staging
- Apply AI-native development practices: using LLMs and AI tooling to accelerate development cycles, generate smarter automation, and build more intelligent solutions for clients and internal teams
- Review code and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers on the PS team
- Establish and document engineering best practices, integration patterns, and internal tooling standards
- Champion AI best practices across the team — helping others understand when and how to use AI tooling effectively and responsibly
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to surface recurring customer pain points and influence the platform roadmap
- Lead technical discovery sessions with enterprise clients to define integration scope and requirements
- Translate complex business and compliance requirements into clear technical specifications
- Serve as the senior technical voice in client conversations — able to communicate architecture decisions confidently to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Build custom reporting tools, enterprise-grade career site implementations, and AI-assisted automation for customers
- Develop internal tooling and dashboards to improve team efficiency, reduce manual work, and scale PS delivery
Who You Are
- Engineering Depth: You write clean, production-quality code and take ownership of what you ship. You think in systems, not just scripts.
- AI-Native: You don't just know AI exists — you actively use it. You're fluent with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, and AI-assisted development workflows, and you have strong instincts around where AI adds genuine value vs. where it introduces risk
- Backend-First, Full Stack Capable: Strong proficiency in Python and TypeScript/JavaScript; comfortable owning backend services while being capable across the stack
- Integration Expertise: Hands-on experience with REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and workflow automation platforms (Workato or similar)
- DevOps Fluency: You're comfortable with Terraform, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD pipelines — shipping and maintaining production infrastructure is part of your normal workflow, not an afterthought
- Technical Leadership: You've mentored engineers, led code reviews, and contributed to engineering standards — not just executed tickets
- Problem Solving: You enjoy ambiguous problems and bring structured thinking to novel technical challenges
- Communication: You can hold your own in a technical architecture conversation and turn around and explain the same concept clearly to a non-technical customer
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with meaningful full-stack or backend depth
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Strong proficiency in Python and TypeScript or JavaScript
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs at scale
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or equivalent)
- Demonstrated AI-native development practices — active use of LLM APIs, AI tooling, or AI-assisted workflows in prior roles
- Familiarity with version control and collaborative development workflows (GitHub)
- Experience with workflow automation platforms (Workato, Zapier, or similar)
- Must be willing to work during US business hours
- Prior experience in SaaS implementation, professional services, or a customer-facing engineering role
- Exposure to HRIS, payroll, or POS system integrations
- Experience building and maintaining shared internal developer tooling or libraries
- Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or agentic AI frameworks
