The Database Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining organizational databases to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability. The role safeguards data integrity, supports business continuity, and adapts database services to evolving technologies and organizational needs. This role will cover Oracle Databases predominantly on cloud environments but may require hybrid and on-prem installations as the need arises.

Key Responsibilities

IT Infrastructure

  • Applies technical skills to correctly follow operational procedures.

  • Uses infrastructure monitoring tools to collect load and performance statistics.

  • Assists in planning and carrying out routine maintenance and installation tasks, including configuration in virtualised environments.

  • Implements agreed infrastructure changes and scheduled maintenance activities.

  • Configures and uses tools to support provisioning, testing, and deployment of infrastructure components.

  • Identifies operational issues and contributes to their resolution, ensuring adherence to agreed standards and procedures.

  • Produces routine reports and suggests improvements to specialists or managers.

Release and Deployment

  • Contributes to the assessment and planning of release packages under guidance.

  • Supports release scheduling and communicates progress to stakeholders.

  • Participates in post-release reviews and documents outcomes.

  • Applies release processes and procedures, ensuring rollback options are available.

  • Uses and supports release and deployment tools and techniques, including automation, as directed.

Service Acceptance

  • Works with project teams to ensure deliverables meet agreed service acceptance criteria.

  • Assists in evaluating project outputs against defined standards.

System Software

  • Reviews new system software and updates, highlighting those requiring action.

  • Assists in tailoring system software to meet service objectives.

  • Supports installation and testing of new versions of system software.

  • Investigates service problems and contributes to their resolution.

  • Maintains operational documentation and advises on correct use of system software.

Network Support

  • Follows agreed procedures to identify and resolve network problems.

  • Uses network management tools to gather performance statistics.

  • Performs agreed routine network maintenance tasks.

Systems Installation / Decommissioning

  • Assists in installation and decommissioning projects, ensuring effective communication with customers.

  • Applies quality plans and method statements under supervision.

  • Monitors installations and reports effectiveness, suggesting improvements where appropriate.

Emerging Technology Monitoring

  • Monitors external environment for emerging technologies.

  • Records impacts, risks, and opportunities for the organisation.

  • Shares findings and contributes to technology awareness within the team.

Methods & Tools

  • Promotes correct use of agreed methods and tools.

  • Applies selected methods and tools in line with organisational standards.

  • Contributes to reviews of tool effectiveness and suggests improvements.

Database Administration

  • Develops and maintains database procedures and documentation.

  • Uses and supports database administration tools and processes, including automation where appropriate.

  • Applies standards for definition, security, and integrity of database objects.

  • Installs and upgrades database software, maintaining configuration records.

  • Monitors database activity and resource usage, escalating issues as needed.

  • Contributes to performance tuning and capacity planning activities.

Other

  • Carryout any other reasonable duties as requested.

Functional Competencies (Technical knowledge/Skills)

  • Working knowledge of Oracle database administration is required.

  • Experience with Azure Oracle Database, Managed Instances, and related services

  • Familiarity with backup and recovery tools (e.g., Redgate, Veeam, native tools)

  • Understanding of database security and compliance standards

  • Knowledge of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management)

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

Experience, Education, and Certifications

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator

  • Experience supporting Oracle databases

  • Experience with Azure database services and cloud-based infrastructure

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate) preferred

  • Oracle certifications a plus

  • ITIL Foundation certification preferred

  • Fluent in English
