Job description
Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support a Base Operating Support Contractor (BOSC) Clinic program on the island of Diego Garcia.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting sampling, testing, and laboratory analysis while maintaining compliance with all relevant technical, operational, and regulatory standards. The role includes training oversight, documentation, and adherence to accredited laboratory practices in support of mission and operational requirements. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Collecting and processing samples following the Contractor's sampling plan, which will summarize:
- Items requiring sampling.
- Sampling equipment used during testing.
- Number and location of samples to obtain representative test results.
- Testing methods necessary to meet laboratory and operational objectives.
- Preparing written training plans and ensuring laboratory personnel are properly trained and proficient in sampling, testing, and laboratory procedures.
- Maintaining documentation of all training activities to demonstrate technical proficiency of all sampling, testing, and laboratory staff.
- Performing re-sampling, re-testing, and obtaining laboratory analyses as requested, ensuring results are resubmitted in compliance with Section F without additional cost to the Government.
- Conducting laboratory analysis and submitting accurate, detailed results in accordance with contract specifications and defined timelines.
- Performing laboratory audits, quality checks, and routine system inspections to ensure compliance with DoD Instruction 4715.15 accreditation or equivalent standards.
- Ensuring proper use, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment to sustain operational accuracy and reliability.
- Compiling, maintaining, and submitting detailed reports for laboratory results, sampling procedures, and operational performance.
- Collaborating with supervisors and engineering staff to review sample results and provide actionable recommendations as necessary.
- Adhering to all environmental, health, and safety protocols when handling hazardous substances and laboratory materials.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Two (2) years of experience in laboratory analysis, sampling, and testing in a professional or technical role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment, as well as testing and sampling methodologies.
- Familiarity with developing and implementing written sampling and training plans for laboratory personnel.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe laboratory environment and adherence to safety protocols.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year at the time of hiring.
- Ability to successfully meet contract medical requirements and maintain standards for the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field.
- Previous experience performing laboratory testing in compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) standards or equivalent industry regulations.
- Familiarity with DoD Instruction 4715.15 or other laboratory accreditation standards.
- Experience working in austere environments or OCONUS (Outside Continental United States) locations.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials handling, disposal regulations, and environmental compliance best practices.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

- Quality: All tasks must align with the Amentum Quality Management System and meet customer and contractual expectations. Employees are responsible for maintaining quality standards and protocols in all operations and reporting.
- Procedure Compliance: Employees are expected to understand, follow, and implement all safety, operational, and environmental policies and procedures as outlined by applicable regulations and organizational requirements.
