High-Performance Trading Systems Engineer | Java, Python, Low-Latency Optimization, Cloud & Microservices

Job Summary
Synechron is seeking an experienced Trading System Engineer to enhance and support our Fixed Income Trading Applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing high-performance trading systems within a fast-paced environment. This role involves close collaboration with traders, technical teams, and stakeholders to deliver scalable, resilient, and low-latency trading solutions that meet business and technical requirements.

Software Requirements

• Required:

  • Strong programming expertise in Java (including multi-threading, concurrency, memory management)

  • Proficiency in Python for automation, data processing, and system support

  • Experience with microservices architecture, including Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and WebSocket services

  • Familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, or Angular

  • Knowledge of RDBMS such as PostgreSQL and SQL Server, and experience working with message queues and caching solutions (Redis, Coherence)

  • Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker) and cloud platforms, especially AWS, and Kubernetes

  • Familiarity with performance profiling and monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, JMC, JFR, JMeter, and YourKit

• Preferred:

  • Experience with data structures, algorithms, and computational complexity optimization

  • Advanced cloud deployment techniques and microservices scaling in AWS and Kubernetes environments

Overall Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize core components for fixed income electronic trading platforms, including venue connectivity, market data handling, execution, and risk management systems.

• Continuously analyze and improve application latency and throughput through profiling, tuning, and performance analysis.

• Build fault-tolerant, resilient systems capable of handling high-speed trading workflows; manage deployment, monitoring, and production support activities.

• Uphold high standards for code quality, automation testing, and maintainability through regular code reviews and best engineering practices.

• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers (at senior level) to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration.

• Collaborate with trading, platform development, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration, scalability, and efficient data handling.

Experience Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in high-performance trading systems development, with proven expertise in fixed income or related markets (bonds, options, futures).

• Demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and optimizing latency-sensitive trading applications.

• Extensive experience with Java, Python, microservices, containerization, and cloud deployment.

• Prior exposure to real-time market data processing, venue connectivity, and order execution workflows.

• Experience managing full software lifecycle including deployment, monitoring, and incident support.

Day-to-Day Activities

• Develop and refine core components for trading platforms, focusing on latency reduction and throughput enhancement.

• Conduct performance profiling, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies.

• Collaborate with trading desk analysts, platform engineers, and risk managers to understand system needs and deliver solutions.

• Monitor live trading systems, troubleshoot issues, and implement rapid fixes to minimize downtime.

• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and architecture discussions to ensure high-quality deliverables.

• Document system processes, architecture, and performance optimization techniques.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field; advanced degrees preferred.

• Proven experience in building and supporting high-performance trading systems, especially in fixed income markets.

• Relevant certifications in Java, cloud computing, or performance engineering are advantageous.

• Commitment to staying current with technological advancements in trading systems, performance engineering, and low-latency infrastructure.
