Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant, Order to Cash & Commissions is a hands-on, execution-focused role within Stream’s centralized Shared Services organization. This position directly owns complex transactional accounting across the full commission revenue lifecycle within a high‑volume, multi‑market commercial real estate brokerage environment.

Stream is undergoing significant operational and systems transformation. While long-term ERP and process modernization efforts are underway, the current environment requires adaptability, resilience, and comfort with manual workflows. This role suits an experienced accountant who can perform today’s work effectively while contributing to future-state improvements.

This is not an oversight-only role. Success requires deep process understanding, strong execution, and credibility built through doing the work. The role offers the opportunity to help shape more scalable and efficient accounting practices as Stream evolves.

Shared Services Context

This role operates within Stream Realty Partners’ centralized Shared Services model, supporting multiple markets and business lines. The environment emphasizes standardization, service quality, and scalability, while also requiring patience and resilience during a period of systems and process evolution. The Senior Accountant is expected to balance execution of today’s work with thoughtful participation in building tomorrow’s operating model.

Career Path & Growth

This role offers a potential long-term path toward broader accounting leadership and controllership. Advancement is driven by demonstrated mastery of transactional accounting, systems fluency, sound judgment, and the ability to operate effectively through change. Leadership and influence are earned through execution, credibility, and a practical understanding of how work is performed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Expectations: Execution, Adaptability, and Ownership

  • Personally execute complex Order to Cash and commission accounting work in a highly manual, evolving environment.
  • Develop deep working knowledge of Stream’s current systems, data flows, and workflows before recommending improvements.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and perseverance while operating within transitional processes that are being actively redesigned.
  • Contribute to change constructively by grounding recommendations in firsthand experience and practical realities.

End-to-End Order to Cash & Commission Accounting

  • Directly perform and manage the full lifecycle of commission-related Order to Cash activities, from deal onboarding through invoicing, cash application, and settlement support.
  • Review and interpret Brokerage Deal Sheets, lease agreements, listing agreements, referral agreements, and amendments to ensure accurate billing and revenue recognition.
  • Execute complex commission billing scenarios, including multi-broker splits, third-party and affiliate fee shares, partial billings, credits, rebills, and amendments.
  • Understand and manage downstream impacts to revenue recognition, receivables, and commission payroll.

Month-End Close & Financial Integrity

  • Actively prepare and review month-end close entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules related to commission revenue and receivables.
  • Perform detailed account reconciliations and variance analyses within existing systems and tools.
  • Investigate discrepancies to root cause through transactional and system-level analysis.
  • Ensure outputs are accurate, supportable, and audit-ready.

Accounting Standards, Controls & Compliance

  • Apply GAAP and ASC 606 principles to real-world commission transactions and non-standard deal structures.
  • Execute and maintain documentation and control requirements in a transitioning control environment.
  • Support internal and external audit requests through well-organized, transaction-level support.

Systems Fluency & Transformation Support

  • Build deep functional expertise in Stream’s current accounting, deal management, and commission systems (e.g., Yardi, ReApps), while preparing for future ERP adoption.
  • Identify inefficiencies, risks, and improvement opportunities through direct system usage and experience.
  • Participate in system enhancement and ERP implementation efforts from an operator’s perspective, informed by hands-on knowledge of current-state processes.
  • Help bridge the gap between legacy processes and future-state solutions by providing practical, execution-grounded input.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work directly with Brokerage, Deal Management, Legal, Commission Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Corporate Accounting teams to resolve issues and support the business.
  • Serve as a dependable point of contact for commission accounting matters in a dynamic, changing environment.
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and pragmatically to manage expectations during periods of transition.

Mentorship Through Example

  • Support junior team members by modeling strong execution, accountability, and adaptability.
  • Contribute to training and documentation efforts rooted in real operational experience.
  • Reinforce a solution-oriented, forward-looking mindset within Shared Services.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience with direct involvement in transactional accounting and Order to Cash processes.
  • Proven ability to execute complex accounting work independently in manual or evolving environments.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and revenue recognition principles.
  • Close attention to detail, adaptability, and an ownership mindset.

Preferred

  • CPA or progress toward CPA.
  • Experience in commercial real estate, professional services, or commission-based revenue environments.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP and subledger systems (e.g., Workday, Yardi, ReApps, NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar).
  • Experience supporting systems implementations or process transformation initiatives from an operational perspective.
