Job description
The Building & Utility Automation & Energy Management Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of automation, controls, and energy management systems across industrial facilities in Mexico and the America region. This role ensures that building systems and utilities operate efficiently, safely, and reliably by applying advanced automation technologies, data analytics, metering strategies, and energy optimization techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize automation and control systems for HVAC, chilled water, compressed air, boilers, pumping stations, lighting, water systems, and BMS/SCADA platforms.
- Support programming and troubleshooting of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, BMS, and DDC systems.
- Develop specifications and standards for automation hardware, networks, and control architecture.
- Ensure OT cybersecurity compliance and collaborate with IT/OT teams.
- Integrate new equipment into existing automation platforms using BACnet, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, OPC-UA.
- Lead energy optimization projects for electricity, steam, water, compressed air, HVAC, and utilities.
- Perform energy audits, efficiency analysis, load profiling, and create energy dashboards.
- Identify and implement actions to reduce energy use and operating costs.
- Manage automation and energy projects from concept through commissioning.
- Prepare technical specifications, functional descriptions, and control narratives.
- Lead FAT/SAT, commissioning, validation, and system handover.
- Maintain automation standards, documentation, and asset information.
- Implement preventive and predictive maintenance for automation and energy systems.
- Ensure compliance with NOM, NFPA, IEEE, ASHRAE, ISA, and international standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Mechanical, or related field.
- At least 3 years of automation, controls, BMS, or utility systems experience.
- Experience with PLCs, BMS/SCADA, industrial communication protocols.
- Experience with energy analysis, metering, and efficiency improvements.
- Ability to interpret electrical diagrams, P&IDs, and control logic.
- Experience leading CAPEX automation or energy projects.
- Knowledge of OT cybersecurity.
- Intermediate/advanced English proficiency.
