Lead Power BI Developer

LexisNexis is seeking a Lead Power BI Developer to join the Customer Insights team. This role is responsible for owning the design, development, and optimization of enterprise-grade Power BI dashboards, semantic models, and reporting solutions that support strategic decision-making across the business.

This is a senior individual contributor role requiring deep technical expertise in Power BI and DAX, strong data modeling skills, and the ability to operate independently while partnering closely with senior stakeholders. The individual will act as a BI subject matter expert, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and performant analytics solutions.

Key Responsibilities

BI Solution Ownership

• Own the end-to-end development of Power BI solutions, including data models, datasets, and dashboards

• Design scalable semantic models that support multiple use cases and stakeholders

• Ensure performance optimization, usability, and maintainability of all BI assets

Advanced Development

• Develop and optimize complex DAX calculations, including time intelligence and advanced measures

• Implement best practices in data modeling (star schema, relationships, measures vs. columns)

• Manage Power BI service components (datasets, refresh schedules, security, deployment)

Stakeholder Partnership

• Partner directly with Customer Insights and business stakeholders to translate requirements into BI solutions

• Design dashboards tailored for executive audiences with clear, actionable insights

Data Quality & Governance

• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across reporting outputs

• Implement governance best practices including documentation, naming conventions, and access controls

Continuous Improvement

• Document data models, calculations, and dashboard logic for long-term maintainability

• Identify opportunities to improve existing dashboards, models, and reporting workflows

• Introduce new capabilities, tools, or best practices to enhance BI maturity

• Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on BI development standards

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree

• 6+ years of hands-on experience developing solutions in Power BI

• Deep expertise in:

  • DAX (advanced calculations, optimization techniques)

  • Data modeling (dimensional modeling, large datasets)

• Strong experience designing dashboards for business and executive stakeholders

• Execution-focused BI developer supporting a lead, with proven ability to work independently and own deliverables end-to-end.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights

• Ability to quickly learn and apply enterprise AI tools and technologies to support technical workflows and business objectives.

Nice to haves/preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting customer insights, market research, or survey data

• Proficiency in SQL and data transformation tools (Power Query / M)

• Familiarity with enterprise BI governance and deployment practices

• Experience working in cross-functional environments with data engineering teams

• Prior experience mentoring or guiding junior analysts/developers

• Knowledge of data governance and best practices for BI environments

• Experience developing end-to-end BI solutions, including upstream SQL data modeling and transformation, and implementing Power BI semantic models with complex hierarchies and row-level security (RLS), preferred.
