Job description
Key responsibilities include assisting with security assessments, supporting lockdown tests, helping implement adjustments to campus access, participating in annual access audits across departments, and helping maintain access control systems to ensure they operate reliably and efficiently. Using access control software and working closely with other departments, the Infrastructure Security Technician I helps coordinate these activities to support smooth and effective security operations. This position contributes to maintaining a state of readiness, helping Liberty University prevent, respond to, and address potential emergency situations related to access control and campus security.
Minimum of 1+ years of related experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with annual security assessments of buildings at LU to assess and correct any issues with access control equipment as it relates to the security of the university.
- Contribute executing scheduled building lockdowns for all buildings at LU annually to ensure the Active Threat Programming procedure as well as hardware in the field will work appropriately when utilized.
- The ability to work closely with other maintenance technicians and security personnel to address urgent issues and work orders.
- Assist leadership initiatives to meet with all LU departments to evaluate access levels, timezones, efficiency of system as it relates to their individual usage
- Run frequent access audits for all departments to ensure proper access is issued/removed maintaining a tight security net on campus electronically
- Conduct general system maintenance to access control software to ensure access control is best utilizing the system and keep it running at a highly efficient level
- Provide support in the EOC when needed for special events
- Educate departments across campus on their role as it pertains to access control security and what they can do to help keep campus safe.
- Attend security training courses/certifications working towards constant improvement in the related field of security.
- Must be able to take directions from Access Control leadership.
- Responsible for completing all work that’s assigned.
- Must be able to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Provides quality customer service.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures and make sure proper safety equipment is used when needed.
- Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates.
Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies
- Must possess high school diploma or GED. Experience communicating and collaborating in team environments to work with different stakeholders to complete the assigned work.
- Minimum of 2+ years of related experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Prefer candidates to possess a bachelor’s degree in security, intelligence, emergency management, criminal justice, or related field. Experience working with AccessIt software, coordinating and communicating cross-departmentally to efficiently and effectively complete work.
- Must possess or be working towards the ASIS Essentials of Security Risk Assessment Certificate.
- Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Excellent organizational skills. Regularly lift 50+ pounds. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is outdoors or in a climate-controlled office setting. Outdoor conditions vary day to day.
Driving Requirements
Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
