Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Laboratory Information System Analyst is responsible for the overall health through maintenance and change management, of the software operating and contributing to the Laboratory Information System infrastructure.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Instructs, orients and mentors students, employees, residents and physicians for information system applications.
  • Must be able to demonstrate participation and involvement in the implementation of system upgrades, enhancements and new acquisitions of laboratory information systems.
  • This includes but is not limited to design, installation, validation & regression testing, training, documentation and migration.
  • Maintains industry knowledge for all regulations applicable to the laboratory information systems.
  • Contributes to inspection readiness and participates in the preparations leading up to an inspection.
  • Follows regulatory, accreditation, safety and hospital standards, policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the management of billing, the reconciliation of billing issues, report generation, and billing interface viability.
  • Utilizes SQL tools to develop and generate ad hoc reports for data collection, interfaces and other objectives to support day to day operations of the lab.
  • Must be able to demonstrate participation and involvement in the implementation of new and updated database maintenance for the laboratory information systems.
  • This includes but is not limited to the research, design, installation, testing, training, documentation, migration, and troubleshooting of all new and updated software LIS Change requests related to the laboratory information systems.
  • This includes, but is not limited to application, billing, reference lab, instrument and other interfaces.
  • Demonstrates the utilization of the organizational tracking system when conducting these events.
  • Demonstrates the effective and efficient management of all projects to ensure projects are executed accurately, collaboratively and timely for all projects assigned.
  • Participates in LIS on-call rotation and off hours support.
  • Demonstrates the utilization of the organizational tracking system when conducting these events.
  • Maintains the use of change management policies and procedures for the organization and department.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree OR
  • High School Graduate
  • 5 or more years Relevant experience or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree Information Systems or related computer science
  • 2 or more years 2-4 years of experience working with Laboratory Information Systems


Preferred Licensure and Certification

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP)
  • Certification or proficiency (certification level score) in assigned application. The certification must be obtained within 180 days of hire and maintained according to EPIC's CEE program guidelines in order to be qualified for and maintain occupancy in this role.


Knowledge Requirements

  • An understanding of clinical laboratory workflow and processes
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
