Senior Software Engineer, Backend - Business Platform

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Business Platform team in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Business Platform powers the backend capabilities that enable businesses and enterprises to onboard, operate, grow, and serve consumers at scale across Southeast Asia.

Get to Know the Role

In this role, you will design, build, and evolve backend platform services that manage business profiles, store metadata, business configuration, and related operational workflows. You'll work on systems that sit close to the source of truth for business data and workflows—systems that directly influence how businesses set up their operations, how internal teams operate reliably, and how downstream products consume trusted business information. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong ownership, pragmatic system design thinking, and a commitment to building platforms that simplify complexity rather than spread it around.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• 5+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering, building scalable production systems

• Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (Go, Java, or Kotlin) with experience in service-oriented architecture
• Proven experience designing APIs, service boundaries, data models, and system integrations for shared platforms or domain systems
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, including SQL/NoSQL databases, scalability, and eventual consistency concepts
• Hands-on experience with event-driven or message-based architectures, caching strategies, and observability/monitoring tools
• Familiar with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and cloud-native development, including CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
• Experience working with RESTful APIs, version control (Git), containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and messaging systems (Kafka/RabbitMQ)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively; experience in SaaS, e-commerce domains, or mentoring junior engineers is a plus

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• Experience in domains such as merchant, e-commerce, marketplace, seller platforms, catalog, or business configuration systems
• Experience building business platforms or SaaS products
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, including scalability patterns and eventual consistency
• Familiarity with message queuing systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) and event-driven architectures
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Proven track record in optimizing system performance and implementing monitoring/observability solutions
• Exposure to AI tools and emerging technologies to improve productivity and workflows
• Experience mentoring or leading junior engineers, with strong collaboration skills
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and ways of working
• Understanding of security best practices and secure coding principles
