Job Description

Want to use your data skills to improve how thousands of students learn?
At WGU, data drives decision-making—from course design to student support. As a Senior Data Analyst on our Learning Program Analytics team, you’ll build tools, analyses, and visualizations that uncover what’s working and what’s not—so our students get what they need, when they need it.

About Institutional Analytics and Research
The Institutional Analytics and Research (IAR) team supports and enables most university teams, departments, and colleges to make data-informed decisions that lead to better student outcomes. Our analysts, scientists, researchers, and managers are distributed across several teams: Institutional Research, Institutional Metrics & Insights, Outreach Analytics, Faculty Analytics, Learning Program Analytics, and Student Success Analytics.

About the Learning Program Analytics Team
We use WGU's rich data assets to track curriculum performance, identify equity gaps, and support continuous improvement. Our focus is clear: empower great curriculum through rigorous, actionable insight. We combine statistical rigor with meaningful impact and believe every analysis should make WGU's courses and programs stronger.

The Role: Senior Data Analyst
The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for extracting, processing, analyzing, and reporting on data to produce rigorous, actionable insights and research. They establish and maintain strong relationships with peers and leaders across IAR, Program Development, and Data Engineering. They perform ad hoc analyses, build and maintain standard reports and data visualizations, and deliver information and insights through various methods and media that privilege data storytelling and compress time-to-action.

What you’ll do

  • Analyze course-level performance to surface improvement opportunities and equity gaps
  • Build dashboards and reports in Tableau or Power BI for internal academic and product teams
  • Translate business and academic needs into clear technical requirements
  • Use SQL to manage and extract insights from complex, multi-source data environments
  • Partner with Data Engineering to resolve data quality issues and optimize pipelines
  • Present findings to cross-functional teams and leadership, adapting to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Document logic, sources, and insight history to support transparency and scale
  • Mentor and support junior analysts through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving, contributing to a culture of continuous learning on the team
  • Apply statistical methods and exploratory analysis to surface patterns, test hypotheses, conduct impact analyses, and bring quantitative depth to curriculum performance questions

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, institutional research, or applied analytics
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and intermediate proficiency in Tableau
  • Experience with descriptive statistics, causal analysis, inference, and forecasting methods

Bonus if you have

  • Experience with Python or R
  • Experience with ETL development
  • Familiarity with curriculum development, higher education, or learner success analytics
  • Exposure to data management platforms (e.g., catalogs, dictionaries) and analytics documentation standards

Experience in lieu of education

An equivalent combination of training, experience, credentials, or accomplishments demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements.

Work Location

  • This is a full-time, in-office position at WGU’s headquarters in Salt Lake City, UT. You’ll work side-by-side with a multidisciplinary team of analysts, researchers, and educators committed to data-informed innovation.
