The Position

The Maintenance Mechanical Technician is responsible for the installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment and facility systems to ensure maximum uptime and operational efficiency. In a biopharmaceutical environment like Roche, this role requires strict adherence to Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE), and Quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance & Repair: Execute preventive (PPM), corrective, and reliability maintenance on manufacturing and facility assets.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical failures and perform adjustments or rebuilds to return equipment to service with minimal downtime.
  • System Operations: Read and interpret equipment schematics, assembly drawings, and pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams.
  • Documentation: Complete maintenance logs, equipment history, and time confirmations in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) like SAP.
  • Safety & Compliance: Coordinate Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) activities and comply with Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and site security measures.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) to prevent repeat failures.
  • Collaboration: Supervise maintenance contractors and provide technical support to manufacturing and engineering teams during routine operations or shutdowns.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Diploma or ITE in Mechanical, Marine, or Chemical Process Engineering.
  • Experience: Typically requires 1–7 years of hands-on experience, preferably in pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CMMS (SAP preferred), basic computer software, and diagnostic tools.
  • Core Competencies: Strong analytical problem-solving, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently or in teams.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as working at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Work Schedule: Willingness to work shift hours or be on standby to support 24/7 plant operations.
