Architect & AI Engineer
Location: Charlotte, NC Iselin, NJ and Irving, TX (Hybrid)
Employment Type: 12 Months Contract
Pay Rate - $69.00/hr to $74.00/hr
Role Overview
In this contingent resource assignment, the Software Engineer will consult on complex initiatives with broad impact and large-scale planning for Software Engineering. The role involves reviewing and analyzing multi-faceted, long-term engineering challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. The engineer will contribute to resolving complex situations while ensuring alignment with function, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements, and will strategically collaborate with client personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Define target architectures, reference designs, and long-term roadmaps.
- Lead architecture reviews and drive cross-domain integrations.
- Translate business needs into well-scoped, secure, and reliable system designs (capacity, reliability, security, cost) and deliver them as production systems in Python/Java on OCP/Kubernetes.
- Build and deliver LLM-powered features using Gemini and GPT, including prompting, function/tool calling, and RAG.
- Design and implement evaluation frameworks for AI solutions, covering golden sets, offline/online tests, guardrails, and cost/latency/quality SLIs.
- Construct agent workflows utilizing LangChain and Google AIDK/Vertex AI agents.
- Embed security controls (secrets, policies, SBOMs, supply chain checks) and model risk/AI safety controls into pipelines and runtime environments.
- Decompose ambiguous problems, run spikes, present options with trade-offs, and drive decisions that balance speed, safety, and cost.
- Establish and continuously improve end-to-end SDLC processes, including branching, code review quality, test strategy, and release management.
- Define SLOs/SLIs, instrument services with OpenTelemetry/Prometheus, and champion SRE practices for operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work or consulting experience, training, military experience, or education.
Technical Skills
- Strong technical architecture experience, including defining target architectures, reference designs, and cross-domain integrations.
- System design and delivery experience in Python/Java on OCP/Kubernetes.
- AI/LLM solutioning experience with technologies such as Gemini, GPT, and RAG, including prompting and evaluation frameworks.
- Experience building with agentic frameworks like LangChain and Google AIDK/Vertex AI agents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with security and compliance by design, including SBOMs, supply chain checks, secrets, and policies.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve ambiguity through spikes, trade-off analysis, and driving decisions.
- Experience with end-to-end SDLC ownership, including branching, versioning, test strategy, and release management.
- Familiarity with operational excellence practices such as defining SLOs/SLIs, using OpenTelemetry/Prometheus, and applying SRE principles.
- Experience with incident readiness and post-incident learning processes.
Compensation & Benefits
The pay rate for this position is between $69.00/hr and $74.00/hr. This is a 12-month contract assignment with the potential for extension or conversion based on performance and budget alignment.
