THE OPPORTUNITY
Striking Distance Studios is focused on delivering high-quality, immersive gameplay experiences. The Level Design team plays a critical role in shaping the player experience by building engaging, gameplay-driven environments from concept through final polish. This role will work closely with Design, Art, and Production to bring experiences to life, support core gameplay systems, and help drive the project toward key milestones.
Responsibilities
- Design, block out, and implement 3D levels from concept through final gameplay in Unreal Engine.
- Collaborate closely with Design, Art, and other disciplines to support core gameplay mechanics and ensure a cohesive player experience.
- Own levels end-to-end, including gameplay implementation, layout iteration, and final polish. Utilize gameplay objects and scripting to bring levels to life.
- Communicate progress regularly with Production, hit agreed-upon deadlines, and respond quickly to feedback through iteration.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in game development with a focus on level design.
- Strong proficiency in Unreal Engine for building and iterating on 3D level blockouts.
- Solid understanding of core level design principles, gameplay flow, and player experience.
- Experience working on at least one shipped AAA title as a Level Designer (or similar role).
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and communicate clearly with Design, Art, and Production.
- Proven ability to take ownership of work, iterate quickly based on feedback, and deliver high-quality results within deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building large-scale or open environments.
- Strong understanding of environmental storytelling and world-building.
- Familiarity with gameplay scripting and implementation using Blueprint or similar tools.
- Experience working in a fast-paced AAA production environment with cross-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to proactively identify issues, propose solutions, and improve workflows.
- Passion for creating immersive player experiences and a strong eye for layout, pacing, and player guidance.
