Job Summary
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading mechanical engineering efforts related to the design, development, integration, and testing of complex maritime and Naval weapon systems, including missile launchers and associated support equipment. This role provides senior-level technical expertise in mechanical system design, structural analysis, and engineering evaluation to support mission-critical systems. The Senior Mechanical Engineer supports concept development, system integration, fabrication coordination, and engineering testing activities while ensuring system performance, reliability, and compliance with program requirements.
Essential Duties
- Lead mechanical engineering design, analysis, and development efforts for maritime, missile, launcher, and weapons control systems.
- Design, develop, and test missile launcher systems and associated support equipment.
- Perform advanced mechanical engineering analysis including structural, thermal, and fluid dynamic evaluations.
- Utilize mechanical engineering software tools to develop system models, simulations, and engineering analyses.
- Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and structural analysis to validate system performance and reliability.
- Coordinate mechanical fabrication activities and support prototype development and system integration.
- Support engineering test planning, execution, and analysis for mechanical systems and components.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation including design specifications, analysis reports, and technical data packages.
- Provide technical leadership during engineering design reviews, system integration efforts, and testing activities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to support the development and deployment of complex mechanical systems.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline.
Experience
- Experience with Naval Surface Warfare Center / DoD Test and Evaluation support preferred.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of professional technical experience.
- At least five (5) years of specialized experience in the concept definition, design, integration, and engineering of maritime, launcher, missile, weapon, or weapon control systems.
- Experience performing mechanical engineering analysis and design activities.
- Experience utilizing mechanical engineering software tools to support system design and analysis.
- Experience coordinating mechanical fabrication and supporting mechanical engineering test techniques.
- Experience in the mechanical design, development, and testing of missile launcher systems and related support equipment.
- Experience performing structural design and analysis for complex mechanical systems.
Knowledge, Skill And Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and system design methodologies.
- Expertise in structural design and analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), fluid dynamics, and thermal dynamics.
- Proficiency with engineering design and analysis tools such as SolidWorks, LS-DYNA, or Craft Tech software.
- Knowledge of mechanical system design and integration within Naval weapons and missile launcher systems.
- Ability to perform engineering modeling, simulation, and performance analysis.
- Experience supporting mechanical fabrication, prototype development, and system integration activities.
- Ability to support engineering test planning, execution, and validation of system performance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex engineering challenges.
- Ability to produce technical documentation, design specifications, and engineering analysis reports.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary engineering and program teams.
Salary: The projected salary range for this position is $110,000-$175,000 and is based on experience and contractual requirements. However, this is not a guarantee of salary.
