Transportation Manager
Job Summary of Transportation Manager
Sysco is seeking a results-driven professional to manage delivery operations, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and high service quality. This role is responsible for overseeing routing, safety, performance metrics, and resource utilization across all delivery functions. The position plays a key part in optimizing costs and maintaining regulatory standards while supporting a high-performing team environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities of Transportation Manager
- Lead and supervise delivery supervisors, routing staff, and delivery associates, promoting safety and operational excellence.
- Ensure adherence to delivery procedures, planned routes, and customer service expectations.
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations including DOT and OSHA; oversee electronic log accuracy.
- Manage labor hours, fuel, travel, and supply budgets while creating effective work schedules.
- Coordinate the maintenance and utilization of Sysco assets; arrange necessary repairs and replacements.
- Evaluate routing efficiency and delivery KPIs to meet performance and customer satisfaction targets.
- Implement cost-reduction strategies and delivery optimization initiatives.
- Oversee backhaul coordination and scheduling to increase delivery service profitability.
- Collaborate with Sales and Marketing teams to resolve customer issues and assess delivery challenges.
- Ensure accurate use of routing and productivity software; maintain system updates.
- Foster associate engagement through meetings, communications, and responsiveness to feedback.
- Support associate training and disciplinary processes in coordination with Safety and HR departments.
- Perform staffing duties including hiring, performance reviews, and terminations.
- Step in to perform associate-level delivery duties when necessary.
Qualifications and Experience of Transportation Manager
- High school diploma or GED required; 1–3 years of related experience or equivalent combination.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred.
